Community Focus 2026

Supporting YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH in Burlington

Why Youth Mental Health

Across Canada, youth mental health has become one of the most pressing challenges facing our communities:

  • 1 in 5 young people experience a mental health challenge

  • 70% of mental health issues begin before the age of 18

  • Many youth struggle to access timely, local support when they need it most

Behind every number is a young person navigating stress, anxiety, isolation, or uncertainty, often without the support they need.

In Burlington, local organizations are stepping up to meet this need. Our role is to support them.

This Year’s Beneficiaries

These two organizations approach youth wellbeing from different angles but together, they reflect something deeper:

Mental health isn’t just about services. It’s about stability, connection, and environment.

Shifra Homes

Shifra Homes provides safe housing and long-term support for young pregnant women and mothers, many of whom are navigating instability, isolation, and mental health challenges.

Each year, they support women through housing, life skills development, and personalized care, helping them move from uncertainty to stability. Many of the women they serve arrive without a support system, and leave with one.

Their work isn’t short-term. It’s foundational.

By creating a safe, supportive environment, Shifra helps young mothers build confidence, strengthen their mental wellbeing, and create a more stable future for themselves and their children.

Burlington Green

BurlingtonGreen is a local organization focused on environmental leadership, education, and community engagement, mobilizing thousands of residents each year to take action. Through community cleanups, youth programs, and environmental initiatives, they create opportunities for people, especially young people, to feel connected to something bigger than themselves.

That sense of connection matters.

Research continues to show that access to green spaces, community involvement, and purpose-driven activity all play a role in improving mental wellbeing. BurlingtonGreen creates those entry points, turning awareness into action, and action into belonging.
